Cryptocoryne balansae Gagnepain (C. crispatula (Engler) N.Jacobsen).

Vietnam, Lang Son Prov., Bac Son Distr., Dong Y Municipality, about 5 km to NWW of Bac Son town by road Hanoi – Bac Son. Small spring stream between remnant highly eroded limestone hills on travertine valley with open secondary shrubs and short tall secondary grasslands. In clean water up to 1 m deep. Spathe outside white, brownish to the apex, white with dirty purple spotting inside, female flowers white, later yellowish, male flowers light yellow, inflorescence axis white with heavily dirty purple spotting. Young leaves purple, older brown-green to deep green. Not common.
